How do you describe the feeling and intensity of the “caminata” to someone who has never danced tango? Or to a tango dancer who is hell-bent on throwing as many figures into the dance as possible?

Every time I experience the caminata (the beautiful gliding tango walk), the same image comes to me.

FUEGO (FIRE)

But it is not the fire you’re expecting.

It is that quiet feeling you have when you sit curled up next to a log fire and you stare into its flames.

I’m a Londoner and have always loved the bright lights and buzz of the city. But curling up by a log fire in the middle of nowhere and mmmmm, for a moment I dream of never going back …

Tango is just like that … the figures are so enticing but when you find yourself just walking … suddenly it’s all you need.

And the strangest thing? You didn’t didn’t realise how much you needed it, how much you missed it, until you felt it.

For just a moment, you dream of never doing anything else. You don’t need the noise, the excitement, the next dopamine hit.

NO FIGURES. JUST THIS.

Connection. Flow. Embrace. Strength. Stillness.

The powerful, intense yet quiet feeling you get when staring into the flames.

The city lights will call again. You’ll go back to the city and be caught up once again in its allure. But once you’ve experienced it, the walk will stay with you.

You can study the art of the caminata this Saturday with us in our workshop in Soho. Come discover the fire!
