Ever feel like you’re going backwards not forwards?
And no, I’m not talking about your elegant tango walk (which is very elegant by the way). I’m talking about your progress.
When we learn tango we’re often disappointed when our progress slows, plateaus or even seems to go backwards. Sometimes we blame ourselves or feel like giving up.
And if we didn’t love tango so much, we might just do that.
But what if someone told you that your progress is not meant to be linear. That it is perfectly natural for it to twist and turn as much as the happiest of tango feet. It might help you have a little faith.
Plateaus are not fun but there is one important truth: if you keep focused, they do not last forever.
When you’re in a dip, it can be a sign that you’ve grown in awareness. When you feel like things aren’t going well, remember we humans learn best from our mistakes.
Progress moves in mysterious ways and – like your favourite leader in a milonga – it will surprise you with delightful movement when you least expect it.
Keep going. It’s all going according to plan!
